Ultrasound: is it so easy to use?

During this presentation, some aspects of vascular access and neural blockade using ultrasound will be discussed and new ideas and tools will be presented in order to increase succes-rate and decrease complications during the use of Ultrasound systems .

Question 1: What drives you?
Impoving ultrasound technology in order to optimize succes rate and safety.

Question 2: Why should the delegate attend your session?
We will present some new ideas to solve some inherent problems with ultrasound.

Question 3: What emerging technologies / trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
Using more advanced Ultrasound technology to improve needle-detection and decrease beam with-artefacts.

Question 4: What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
Acceptance and use of US will increase.

Question 5: What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
Lack of training and understanding of the physics involved.

About Erik Korsten
Erik Korsten holds a degree in Medicine from Groningen University (1979). He obtained his specialization in anesthesiology from the St. Antonius Hospital in Utrecht in 1982 and his PhD from Leiden University in 1984. He took a position as anesthesiologist at the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven in 1983 and has worked there ever since. In 2001, Korsten was appointed Part-time Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2015, he also took on the position of Part-time Professor at Zhejiang University (China).
